Meals For Busy Mums Should Be Easy Quick And Tasty

On the news today I was surprised to hear that a survey in England showed that most women had a selection of 9 basic meals that they rotated and served nearly all the time for the family. Meals for busy mums should be quick and easy and definitely tasty.

I was really quite amazed to hear that. My mum used to have a small selection in her day but there was not a lot of variety to choose from then compared to what we are spoiled with today and most definitely mums in those days did not get hints from the TV and internet like they do today.

I would have thought that in today’s era more women would have a much larger range in their ‘regular’ meal selection.

Doesn’t that go to show how we do get wrapped up in our own ‘normality’ and think that most other people experience the same thing? For me, food has always held my interest – herbs, cooking, catering and entertaining. In my blindness I thought that most other people also had at least a reasonable range of interest in cooking.

Apart from my own point of view I guess I have always thought that if someone is going to do something nearly every day (cook a family meal) then they would want some variety to make it more interesting. Huh, funny how that is not the case.

Here are some suggestions for Easy Budget Meals – Bacon and Egg Pie – Stacked Beef Enchiladas – Green curry Chicken – Tuna and Pasta Bake – Meat Loaf – Leek and Bacon Bake – Ham and Pineapple Salad – Filled Pancakes

There is no doubt that changing our habits takes some effort and for busy people that needs some motivation. The meals that have been suggested above are very simple and reasonably quick to prepare and that is what is needed for busy families.

Another requirement of a busy mum is that the meals must keep well because so often a meal has to be kept for a member of the family until later in the day or even until the next day.

Taking all this into consideration it is no wonder busy women tend to cut back on the range of meals they cook.

Shopping habits

Shopping is another element that affects what meals they cook. Busy women do not have all day to wander around a market as their time is of a premium and that is another reason why women tend to stick to the same recipes.

A tip for the mum who would like to make some changes is to concentrate on one main ingredient like ground beef and have a range of recipes that it can be used in. For example with ground beef you could cook any of these 8 meals:

All that would be needed to change the meals would be to have the extra ingredients in the pantry.

- Tacos – Enchiladas – Chillii con Carne – Stuffed Capsicums – Cottage Pie – Rissoles and Salad – Meat Balls and Pasta – Beef Burgers

With all these factors in mind there is a new cookbook online that also has a pantry list. For lots more ideas “Easy Budget Meals 4U” would help you expand your quick and easy meal range for the family with tasty dishes they will want again and again. Busy women do not have all day to wander around a mart as their time is of a premium and so surely you will benefit.

With over 10 years in the food industry and as a working mum Kaye Dennan has put together an ebook “Easy Budget Meals 4U” so that busy mums can cook quick and easy budget meals. Green Curry Chicken – Ghin Khao Swanston AUD14.90

Deliciously coconut milk with tender pieces of chicken. If I were to make it at home, I usually use more herb paste for a more uh, herbaceous flavour. Here, the coconut milk is the centrepiece. It was so good that we polished off all the rice after dousing it with the green curry sauce.

We also saw the lemongrass chicken and Pla Sam Rod 3-flavour fish that had wonderful presentations! I’ll have to remember to order it next time.

Green Curry Chicken, Beef with Basil – Simply Thai, Doncaster Shoppingtown AUD10.50 small

Even though I had bad experiences with the Simply Thai in QV, the bain marie dishes at Doncaster looked quite good. And sure enough, they weren’t bad at all.
