Chicken rice and gravy with biscuits, has been in our family for many years. It seemed to me everytime my mother would cook this particular meal we would always seem to have company. It may be another relative or a friend of the family but it never fails.
I found it pretty wierd and my twin brother also. We would get excited everytime my mom would say we are having chicken and gravy, because we could not wait to see who would pop up on this particular day. So oneday I asked my mom “what is it that you put in your rice and gray that makes people come around when you cook it”. She told me nothing special but a little love and she would smile.
So one day she sat me and my brother down and told us that many years ago her ancestors and thier ancestors have ate this this same particular meals for decades and it is was very filling,cheap and delicious,she explained the meal took no time to fix and and the cost to prepare the meal was very cheap and she also said you can not go wrong with chicken, so she said why not pass the tradition on and she did.
My brother and I today make chicken gravy and rice with biscuits and we both enjoy it so much that we fed it to our children but what I notice about my children when ever they eat biscuits they have to have jelly no matter what kind of jelly as long as it is sweet they are happy and that makes me happy, and hopefully oneday they will pass the delicious recipe on to their children and thier children will pass it on with love also.
